The secret weapon of top performers

(and it’s not what you think…)

You’re up against it with back-to-back meetings, a horrible client deadline and you need to get to parents’ evening tonight on time.

You have to stay focused, think clearly and make smart decisions.

How does Sam seem to manage it all?

Well, Sam, has discovered some of the world’s most successful leaders have a secret weapon – meditation.

Business gurus like Bill Gates, Jeff Weiner and Stephen Bartlett swear by meditation to sharpen their focus, boost creativity and manage their stress well.

And it’s not just boardroom execs…

Top sports people and celebrities like:

  • Erling Haaland
  • Serena Williams
  • Katy Perry
  • Lady Gaga and
  • James Corden

also use meditation to stay on top of their game.

If it’s good enough for Smithy, surely it’s worth giving it a go?

Why meditation works for high achievers

Meditation isn’t just about sitting cross-legged and chanting (but if that works for you, go for it!).

Science backs up its benefits, especially for high performers:

  • Focus and concentration: meditation strengthens attention and awareness – think of it as mental weightlifting for your brain.
  • Better decision-making: it helps regulate emotions, making it easier to think clearly under pressure. Very useful!
  • Stress reduction: as you know, I’m all over anything that helps beat stress and meditation is the master of this. It helps lower stress hormones allowing you to respond consciously rather than reacting to things on auto-pilot (and it helps with so much more!)
  • Creativity boost: a calmer mind is an innovative mind. Ever noticed your best ideas come when you’re relaxed?

Common meditation obstacles

(and how to overcome them)

  1. “I don’t have time.” Start small. Even 2-5 minutes can make a difference.
  2. “My mind won’t stop racing.” That’s normal! Meditation isn’t about stopping your thoughts, it’s about observing them without getting caught up in them.
  3. “I don’t know how.” I recommend you start with guided meditations as then you can just follow along.. PS. There’s a free one for you below…keep reading.
  4. “It feels weird.” So did Zoom meetings at first, but now we can’t escape them! Give it a chance.
  5. “How does this actually help my mind?” I can tell you all about strengthening your neural pathways but what you really need to do is just experience it for yourself.

How your workplace can embrace meditation

Forward-thinking companies are already integrating short meditative practices into their culture. Here’s how:

  • They start meetings with a one-minute mindful pause: a moment of deep breathing before diving in. Yes really.
  • They offer guided meditation sessions (virtually or in-person) to help their employees reset.
  • They encourage “mindful breaks” think modern day fag break meets mini mindfulness rest break. They are making it cool for their people to take a few minutes to reset.
  • They have a quiet space in the office where their teams can step away for a moment of stillness.
